New Kia Rio 5-door spy shots

These latest spy shots give us the first clear look of what the production version of the all-new Kia Rio 5-door will look like. The sub-compact car, which will also be available as a four-door sedan, has recently been captured in Germany.
As evident from the shots, the all-new Rio 5-door will get a completely refreshed look at the front and rear. As expected, the new model will sport more attractive exterior design.
Under the skin, the 2012 Rio 5-door will use the same platform as recently introduced Hyundai Accent, which goes on sale in South Korea by the end of Novemebr.
Power will come from a wide range of petrol and diesel four-cylinder engines. Entry-level Rio model will feature either a 1.4L diesel or 1.4L gasoline engine producing between 75 and 100 horsepower. More potent, 1.6L GDI engine is also expected to find a place in the new Rio 5-door. For the first time, Kia Rio will be available with the six-speed transmission (manual or automatic).
Expect the new Kia Rio 5-door to hit the streets sometime next year. Find more spy shots of 2012 Kia Rio here.

Kia Motors America introduces yet another special edition Kia Soul model. Making its official debut at the 2010 SEMA, the all-new Kia Soul White Tiger Concept previews one of the two special edition Soul models that Kia intends to introduce in 2011.
As previous four special edition Soul models, which include the Soul Denim, Ignition Soul, Soul Dragon and Soul Ghost, the all-new Soul White Tiger also features a unique exterior color combined with some exlusive graphics. Kia says the latest Soul  model takes styling cues from this year’s Asian Lunar year animal – the Tiger and dramatically combines an all-white exterior with one-of-a-kind tiger-themed graphics.
The 2011 Soul White Tiger Concept is equipped with all of the standard features of the Soul “+” model and adds an abundance of options, such as body colored bumpers, fog lamps, sport spoiler, black fender vents, rear bumper cat claw applique and striking white-finished 18 inch alloy-wheels.
Inside, the 2011 Soul White Tiger features a push-button start, black leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, sport-styled floor mats with contrasting stitching and illuminated scuff plates.
Although the Soul White Tiger Special Edition models is currently presented as a concept car, it will soon appear (in its final production form) at the Kia dealerships across the USA. You can expect the first models to hit the showroom floor within a few weeks, says Kia.

At 283 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, the 2011 Dodge Journey equipped with the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine delivers a 20 percent boost in power compared with the V-6 engine it replaces.
Engineers reduced noise, vibration and harshness by installing new, premium sound-deadening treatments and insulation throughout the vehicle.

Viper Cup International Experience Winner Interview

Kyle Cherry is 19 years old, a long-time automotive enthusiast, and as of 4:15pm yesterday the luckiest guy in the western hemisphere. As the grand prize winner of the VIPer Experience Sweepstakes, Kyle won a contest granting him unfettered access to the Viper Cup, World Challenge, and Viper Owners Invitational weekend at Miller Motorsports Park just outside Salt Lake City, Utah. This makes Kyle one of the few people able to truthfully claim they’ve snagged an exclusive seat riding shotgun deep inside the pulsing nerve center of Dodge motorsports. From the passenger’s side of both Kuno Wittmer and Jeff Courtney’s World Challenge Vipers, Kyle was able to bear firsthand witness to the intimidating power of all 600+ horses herded with finesse around corners with names like “Scream” and “Maybe Y’ll Makit.” Fortunately Kyle made it, and he also made more memories in one day than some of us will make in a lifetime.

2010 Dodge Challenger

The Dodge Challenger has been long awaited for many muscle car enthusiasts. It blends retro and modern design with great balance. It has modern safety features, such as ABS, traction control, antiskid system, and curtain side airbags. Other features on the 2010 Challenger include a keyless engine start, Chrysler's uconnect multimedia suite, and a navigation system. The Challenger drives with thrill and the roar. The Challenger is just as retro on the inside as it is on the outside. This includes its gauge cluster, black headliner and a slanted shifter console. In manual versions, the shifter features a unique "pistol-grip" design. The SRT8 has exclusive leather sport seats with accent stitching and embroidered SRT8 logos.  The cabin of the 2010 Challenger has a volume of 93.9 cubic feet, with 16.2 cubic feet of cargo space in the truck (the same as in the Charger).  Everything inside--seats, carpet, trim--is dark. While a race-inspired interior is one of the SRT division's major criteria, the primary inspiration here is manifested in the front seats. The contrast-stitched, heavily bolstered buckets in the SRT8 do an excellent job of keeping you in place. The Challenger carries the 6.1-liter Hemi V8 - a bored-out version of the standard 5.7-liter motor. The automatic-transmission version of the R/T should continue to feature Chrysler's Multi-Displacement System cylinder deactivation. The SRT8 should continue to have a 425-hp 6.1-liter Hemi V8 mated to either a 5-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual.

2011 Kia Sportage Top Safety Pick

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Picks 2011 Kia Sportage crossover vehicle as 2010 Top Safety Pick!

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or IIHS, has chosen the 2011 Kia Sportage crossover vehicle -CUV as the 2010 Top Safety Pick in the category of small crossover vehicles. The ratings were based on side, frontal, rear, and rollover-including roof strength, tests for safety in an impact crash. The rating of “Good” is the highest rating achievable and the 2011 Kia Sportage safety record proves this.

Ratings from the Institute are based on results from frontal, side and rear impact crash tests, and for 2010 a good performance in a roof strength test – to measure protection in a rollover – also was required to win. Each vehicle’s overall evaluation was based on various measurements specific to each crash angle, and overall impact on crash test dummies inside the vehicle at the time of collision. All vehicles must have electronic stability control available to be eligible.

Dodge Charger

The original Dodge Charger was built in 1965 as an option package for the Dart GT, then from 1966 to 1978 as a rear-wheel drive, two-door muscle car. It was built in four generations over the 12-year run, though the second-generation car, built from 1968-1970 is probably the most recognizable. This version was, and still is for many, the iconic Charger. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Charger was available with the same engines as the Challenger, including the 426 cubic-inch HEMI, the 440 Magnum and 440 Six-Pack. From 1983 to 1987 the Charger was re-envisioned as a compact hatchback. The Charger name then took a hiatus until the new sedan was released in 2006.

The 2011 Dodge Charger is expected to get a redesign, with more Challenger-like styling and possibly more power from the R/T and SRT8 versions. If it does come, it may appear as early as later this year at auto shows, with an on-sale date toward the end of 2010 or early 2011.

2010 Chevrolet Malibu Review

The new 2010 Chevrolet Malibu offers a 170 HP V6 Engine as a standard. Chevy Malibu provides quick response at highway speeds when you need to and the engine is designed to be driven up to 100k miles before the first scheduled spark plug replacement. The headlights will automatically turn off in case you forget to this will also happen with the interior lights when the car has been sitting with the ignition off for 20 minutes. The Direct Ignition System eliminates the need for periodic engine timing adjustments and the V6 engine in every Malibu gives you highway gas mileage that's more like a four cylinder estimated MPG 20 city and 29 on the highway.
The new 2010 Chevrolet Malibu offers available leather seats (LS only). The power driver seat on the Malibu LS features 6 comfortable driving positions (not available on the Malibu sedan). Both models come with rear heat ducts and solar ray tinted glass which is made with special filters to help block harmful UV rays. The solar ray glass on the windshield and rear window helps to keep you cooler when the weather is warm and block out damaging UV rays. Both offer Chevy Malibu's offer theater style seating for the back seat passengers, this allows the back seat to sit higher than those in the front for a better view.

Dodge Journey

The 2010 Dodge Journey combines the practicality of an SUV with the comfort of a car -- all while avoiding the styling of a minivan. Reviewers generally agree that the Journey is pleasant and roomy. Its optional third-row seat along with innovative features, like a chilled beverage cooler and in-floor storage bins, make it a good minivan alternative. But its most alluring feature is its affordability -- the Journey’s base price is the lowest in the class. Its base fuel economy rating (19/25 mpg city/highway) is also quite good for a seven-passenger SUV.
The Journey's interior is its greatest strength. Its family-friendly features include integrated booster seats, a cooled storage bin, and seating for up to seven.

The 2010 Dodge Journey comes with safety features that are on par with the rest of its class. It does very well in government crash tests and is even an insurance industry "Top Safety Pick."

Hyundai Fuel-Efficiency Goal: 50 MPG By 2025

Hyundai’s ongoing success in the marketplace is no doubt impressive: The company just rang up a new record for sales in July, which was also Hyundai’s second best month ever in the U.S. But even more impressive—and a key to that sales momentum—is the sterling fuel-efficiency numbers offered across theHyundai lineup. Hyundai has been the most efficient automaker in the U.S. since 2008, and the company doesn’t plan on that changing any time soon. In fact, the automaker has dedicated itself to offering a lineup that averages no less than 50 mpg by 2025.
“We’re committed to setting the pace in this industry on fuel economy, and we’re inspired by the possibilities that our advanced Blue Drive technologies afford,” said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America president and CEO. “Getting to 50 mpg and beyond seems like a huge leap, but by making this commitment and aligning our R&D initiatives now, we know we can get there.” [click to continue…]

Chevrolet Shines in Latest AutoPacific Awards

AutoPacific 2010 Ideal Vehicle Awards (IVAs) are now out, and three high-quality Chevrolet vehicles are now in.
“The IVAs are based on owners’ ratings of their new 2010 model year cars and trucks across 15 key vehicle attributes ranging from power and acceleration to interior storage,” said George Peterson, president of AutoPacific. “The cars or trucks that owners would change the least are the most ideal.”
The Chevrolet Camaro was chosen as the top finisher in the Sporty Car segment, marking another key win over its muscle-car rivals—and plenty of other competitors as well. Packing a high-powered, high-efficiency V6, the Camaro provides 312 hp and an impressive 29 mpg in EPA highway ratings at a surprisingly practical starting price of just $22,680. And that’s just for starters: For those whose ideals require a potent 426-hp, 6.2-liter V8 along with Brembo stoppers, a limited-slip differential and model-specific front and rear fascias, Chevrolet also offers the Camaro SS at an MSRP that begins at $30,945. That’s some $1,900 less than the least-expensive Mustang V8.

Next Chevrolet Corvette Could Get Twin-Turbo V6

For many years, lurking beneath the Corvette’s long hood there has been a ferocious V8 powerplant. However, with many automakers focusing more and more on ways of curbing weight and boosting MPG, the next Chevy Corvettemay include a twin-turbocharged V6 engine instead.
The folks at Autoweek have reported that Chevrolet is considering downsizing the ‘Vette’s engine when the next generation arrives. The automaker is also reportedly trying to get the new model ready in time for its 60th anniversary, which would be the 2013 model year.
Rumors concerning a smaller engine for the Corvette certainly aren’t new, but with these rumors continuing to surface, it seems like a distinct possibility more and more.

Kia Soul

Hands-free Bluetooth connectivity, iPod/USB integration, satellite radio, ABS, disc brakes all around, A/C and a full suite of airbags are just some of the features standard on 95% of all Souls going to market.

To the average Kia buyer, what's going on inside the car is more important than performance. If space is a key component, the 53.4 cubic feet of interior cargo space with the rear seats down may be an issue (the xB has 69.9 cubic feet, the Cube 58.1), though the under-floor storage is a nice touch. For customers concerned with style and comfort, the Soul may actually win them over with its larger seats, reasonable space and funky-yet-intuitive dash complete with a crystal clear display.

The Soul is a great car.

2010 Viper “Final Edition” models

To celebrate the final year of production for the current-generation Dodge Viper, Dodge is building a limited production run of just 50 2010 Viper SRT10 “Final Edition” models.

Available in Coupe, Roadster and ACR (American Club Racer) model configurations, each Final Edition Viper exterior features a Graphite Clear Coat body with a painted black center stripe traced in red. Viper Coupe and ACR Final Edition models include a black windshield surround. All Final Edition models carry unique side sill badges.

The black interior features custom red accent stitching, red painted halo surrounds on the gauge cluster and bright stainless steel screws in center stack bezel. A numbered dash plaque (1-50) is located on the shifter bezel just above the unique Viper Final Edition floor mats.

All Viper Final Edition Coupe and Roadster models will wear six-spoke wheels painted in Anthracite, while ACR models will come with five-spoke Sidewinder wheels in black.
The 8.4-liter (510 cu. in.) V-10 engine remains the heart of the 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10. With 600 (450 kW) horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. (760 N•m) of torque, benchmark performance numbers, (including 0-60 mph in less than 4 seconds, quarter-mile time in the mid 11-second range, 0-100-0 mph in 11 seconds flat and a top speed of 202 mph) continue to prove how the serious, race-inspired, street-legal two-seater performs without apology.

This build of 50 Final Edition 2010 Dodge Vipers includes all three model configurations for the first time - 20 Coupes, 18 Roadsters and 12 ACRs. In 2002, a total of 360 Viper Final Edition Coupes (326) and ACRs (34) were built with Viper Red Clear Coat exterior and white stripes.

Production of the 2010 Dodge Viper Final Edition models is scheduled to begin in early summer.

2010 Dodge Viper

The last of the current generation of the Dodge Viper has rolled off the line at the Conner Avenue plant that has been making the sports car since 1992.
The last 2010 Dodge Viper built is an SRT10 Coupe with a 1-of-a-kind paint scheme designed in cooperation with the owner of the largest Dodge Viper collection in the world.

Wayne and D’Ann Rauh of Arp, Texas own more than 40 Dodge Vipers, the largest known collection in the world, and it is fitting that these rabid Viper fans would purchase the very last of the 2010 Dodge Vipers.

The Viper is now on a two-year hiatus after which the auto maker’s executive team could bring it back with a new look and design with the help of Fita SpA’s expertise. Chrysler merged its assets with Fiat last year.

Ram Rules! - 2010 Motor Trend Truck of the Year Winner

Chevrolet Volt Takes on the Heat in Arizona

YUMA, Ariz. -- Summer for the Chevrolet Volt engineering team means hot weather testing. And taking on the hottest Mother Nature has to offer is what they’re doing at the General Motors Desert Proving Grounds in Arizona.
While the Volt is designed to operate in all weather and temperature conditions, one of the tests it is undergoing in the desert is the Hot Soak Evaluation, where temperatures inside the cabin can exceed 175 degrees F.
Engineers “bake” the Volt in the sun for several hours, then open everything in the car, cycle all of the electric accessories and then take the car down the ride handling track to check for squeaks and rattles. Additionally, they check to make sure the door seals continue to close off the cabin to the hot air as they cool the Volt down using its high-efficiency air conditioning system.

“The car performed well,” said senior durability test engineer Steve Pratt. “The air conditioner cooled things off from our interior temperature of 138 degrees down to a nice comfortable temperature for driving.”

While the Volt will not be equipped to handle towing, the engineering team regularly puts the Volt through some weight training via Grade Load testing. Engineers use a towing dynamometer – which simulates endless hill and mountain climbing anywhere from a 2 to 10 percent grade – to put stress and strain on the Volt’s engine and chassis to determine how well it will perform while climbing a mountain at temperatures above 100 degrees F.

In addition, the Volt undergoes routine City Cycle testing two to three times each day. In this test, the battery receives added heat from the electrical energy generated by the steering, air conditioning, accessories and components under repetitive, cumulative use. The engineers are making sure there are no heat-related issues. The Volt has yet to disappoint during real-world city driving cycles.

In fact, the Volt has performed very well under the stress and strain of all these tests, but the rigorous testing and validation continues because the Volt is an electric vehicle for all temperatures and seasons.

4,400 Chevrolet Volt Owners to be Eligible for Free Home Charging Stations

DETROIT – The first buyers of the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extended-range capability will be eligible for one of 4,400 free home charging stations. The program will provide Volt owners with a 240-volt charge station from either ECOtality, Inc. or Coulomb Technologies. In many cases, it will include the cost of home installation. The projects are made possible with a grant of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds from the Transportation Electrification Initiative administered by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

“Many owners will plug their Volt into a normal 120-volt electrical outlet, charge overnight and drive to work in the morning using only battery power,” said Tony DiSalle, Product and Marketing Director for the Chevrolet Volt. “For Volt owners who want to install a faster 240-volt charge station, we expect the Department of Energy project to save $1,000 and $2,000.”

The U.S. Department of Energy projects were established with two objectives: installing charging stations in residential, workplace and public areas to encourage consumers to purchase electric vehicles; and studying electric vehicle usage to optimize future electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

To encourage consumer purchases of electric vehicles, federal grants and other funds have been awarded to install more than 15,000 home charge stations. That total includes 4,400 home charge stations for Volt owners; 2,600 as part of The EV Project from ECOtality, and 1,800 as part of the ChargePoint America project from Coulomb Technologies.

The Chevrolet Volt is an electric vehicle with extended range capability, designed to drive up to 350 miles without stopping to recharge or refuel. For the first 40 miles, Volt is powered by pure electricity, without using gasoline or producing tailpipe emissions. When the Volt’s lithium-ion battery is depleted, a gasoline-powered engine/generator seamlessly operates to extend the driving range another 300 miles.

Ram Truck Brand Named the Official Truck of the Kentucky Derby and Churchill Downs

Thoroughbred horses meet horsepower as the Ram Truck Brand makes a grand entrance on the track and in the winner's circle for the 136th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. From the Ram Truck logo placement on jockeys' pant legs to work trucks in and around the track, the Ram Truck Brand and Ram trucks will be proudly on display as part of a new sponsorship with the Kentucky Derby and Churchill Downs. Ram trucks wrapped in customized graphics inspired by the unique designs of jockey silks will be positioned throughout Churchill Downs. As part of the overall integration of the Ram Truck Brand with Churchill Downs, the Ram Truck Jobsite Tour trailer will be located near the track so that attendees will be able to engage in the full brand experience.

"The Ram Truck Brand is honored to be a part of the 136th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs as well as the history and tradition associated with this annual event," said Fred Diaz, President and CEO - Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. LOCAL DEALERSHIP MAKES A SLAM DUNK SPONSORING LOCAL YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Chris Leith Chevrolet Donates over $1,500 in Cash and Sports equipment to Town of Rolesville Parks and Recreation Department

Chris Leith Chevrolet is one of 25 Chevrolet dealers from the Raleigh-area that partnered with local youth basketball leagues helping to raise close to $11,800 in total donations from the dealerships and private parties in the area. During the 2009-2010 basketball season, Town of Rolesville Parks and Recreation Department received both monetary and equipment donations as well as the opportunity to raise up to $10,000 through a unique fundraiser.

Chris Leith Chevrolet partnered with Town of Rolesville Parks and Recreation Department because of the league’s proximity to the dealership. Over the course of the season, Chris Leith Chevrolet donated team equipment kits, which included equipment bags, practice jerseys, coaches’ clipboards, scorebooks and t-shirts, while also making a cash donation to Town of Rolesville Parks and Recreation Department. Offering additional support, the dealership donated a vehicle, which was given away through the Chevy Youth Basketball Fundraiser Opportunity. This fundraiser allowed participating leagues to raise money through ticket sales, and one lucky person won a car for supporting the youth league in their area. Leagues like Town of Rolesville Parks and Recreation Department kept one hundred percent of the proceeds raised, and they can use the funds in any way they choose. The winning ticket for the Chevy Youth Basketball Fundraiser Opportunity was purchased by Lucille Frazier of Oxford, NC. She purchased her winning ticket from Oxford Parks and Recreation Department.

“We are thrilled to contribute to Town of Rolesville Parks and Recreation Department and have really enjoyed partnering with them this season,” said Johnny Dudley, of Chris Leith Chevrolet. “Sponsoring Town of Rolesville Parks and Recreation Department gave us the opportunity to help them raise much-needed funds and show our commitment toward supporting the youth and families in the Wake Forest/Rolesville community. “ We’re glad to have achieved such positive outcomes for the community through the Chevy Youth Basketball program.”
